837473 2009-12-07 21:32:00 I want to gauge what others think I should do about this;

I sold a Macbook laptop on Trademe in pretty good condition with a battery that lasted 2 to 3 hours. My daughter had never had a problem with the battery and it worked fine when I gave the Macbook the once over when I reinstalled the OS. The buyer picked it up and spent a few minutes with the laptop before giving me the cash and appeared to be happy with it. However less than 2 hours later he emailled me saying that the battery was stuffed and wouldn't charge at all. But I KNOW the battery was fine.

He says he's done all the normal things like resetting the PMU and reseating the battery.

What should I do? Should I buy him a new or second hand battery? Should I refund him some of the money? Or should I do nothing on the grounds that the battery was fine when it left here?

837475 2009-12-08 00:54:00 I'd suggest that you get him to bring it back for you to check (I assume you'll be able to tell if he's dropped in a dud battery to replace your original) and if it really is a dud you either negotiate a partial refund (not the value of a new battery either, pro-rata for the age so 50% or so) or cancel the sale.

Not many other options, apart from substituting a crook battery there's not much the buyer can have done to stuff it up. Might just be your bad luck.

Cheers

In the interests of full disclosure I would say yes.
