1122998 2010-07-27 09:37:00 Gday, my mates machine is running like a pig. It has only 1GB ram and is running vista but it's recently got very slow. It constantly hangs on programs, then will eventually become responsive again. Itunes is impossible to use as it just hangs.

I have run spybot and removed a couple of things - nothing major and removed some unneccesary programs with Revo Uninstaller. I have also limited what AVG runs in the background to save on memory.

Can someone tell me from the log if theres something causing this issue? Or if theres things I can remove?

Ta.

Go to start/run. Type services.msc. Go to windows search. Double click on it change it to disabled. Click on stop. You don't need it. And yup, you're asking for trouble with no service pack

1123002 2010-07-27 09:47:00 Agreed with GameJunkie.
I normally kill off anything thats not important and that I'm not using.
If you are having trouble with killing off stuff that you don't need use enditall (www.the-old-sea-dog.net).

BTW I'm sure there is a newer version than the one I found.
icow (15313)
1123003 2010-07-27 09:58:00 Yeah, put on the service packs asap. MS is stopping support for VISTA OS with no SPs very soon. go here;

1123004 2010-07-27 10:05:00 Support has ended for Vista with no SP already. April 13th. And support for 2000 and XP SP2 ended 13th July Speedy Gonzales (78)
1123005 2010-07-27 10:06:00 Thanks everyone for your replies.

Forgot to say the machine is a Sony Viao laptop, is it possible to add more RAM? I can add ram to a desktop, but would I need to take it into a store?

Yes, didn't realise Limewire was running in the background, but it's not always.

He connects to a network when he takes the laptop into work, do you think there will be any issues in connecting to the network if I install SP1 and 2? It's a small company with no real IT man.

As a side note I was looking at his music and when I click on Open File Location it gives the location as theserver\user\xxx\music why would this be? It is stored locally obviously, so why this network path?
Buff_K (691)
1123006 2010-07-27 10:10:00 First thing I would do is install both SP's. It'll probably make a diff with some things. There will be more issues running it without any SP's than if you installed them. There's probably music at work. Ask him Speedy Gonzales (78)
1123007 2010-07-27 23:14:00 Having limewire on a work pc is asking for trouble. I hope he is the boss Gobe1 (6290)
