1122702 2010-07-27 04:22:00 Hi guys.

I have Windows XP Home, SP3, all updates, etc and 768, unshared, ram.

Had to do a system reload, again, a few weeks back.

Now find if I try to run an installer program, box comes up and says I need administrator rights. :badpc::badpc::badpc::

I only have one user, what Windows set up it's self and it says I do have administrator rights.

Tried to restart in Safe mode and chose Administrator, couldn't run installer then, either.

Man I'm not half getting sick of this sodden windows stuff.

Love to use a full Linux setup, but wife is a tad technophopic, so that not gona happen any time soon.

Any helpful advise is appreciated.

Ian

1122704 2010-07-27 04:55:00 Windows installer doesn't work in Safe Mode.
Your profile could be corrupt.
Try making another user profile with administrator rights, log in to that profile and try again.

Thanks, pctek.

Been to microstuff and download, what I hope, is the correct

I'll let you know.

Good luck with managing admin rights on Lin , makes Win seem like a dream

What installer program exactly.
Can you install anything now ?? What other programs wont install
installer(?) service wont be running in safe mode so that wont help
Download Windows installer (update) & run that
You may have a virus
parts of the registry may have ownership/rights screwed up
Hard drive may have faults

1122708 2010-07-27 05:05:00 Thanks guys.

After installing the Windows Installer I retried the VLC installer and low and behold, it works..

Tried another installer, Wondershare USB Drive Encryption and that worked too.

So here's hoping
