837590 2009-12-08 03:41:00 Okay, I'm looking to buy a Sony Ericsson W995 walkman phone off TradeMe. The current owner says it's on the Telecom XT network. Does this mean I can't use it with Vodafone? What I want to know is would I be able to use my current Vodafone sim card in it and have it work on the Vodafone network in this phone just like my current phone? If there is a charge for something that needs to be switched or whatever, how much would it cost me?

Also, I went on the Vodafone website and searched for this phone and I could not find it. However, when me and my friend went to 277 New Market Westfield, we went to the Vodafone store and it was there priced at $599. Can somebody please explain this to me because I am quite sure I'm not mistaken.

Thanks very much.

837591 2009-12-08 03:57:00 It depends on what frequency is on that phone model.

Some high end phones that are for XT might work on Vodafone but on 2G - less features etc.

If you are in the main cities they may also work in 3G on Voda but it is safe to ignore this. Cos when you are outside it will drop to 2G if that is supported.

Personally I would just get a Voda handset or a XT handset. Period. If you wanna keep your 021 #, you can get a XT simcard package and carry your phone number through, ie., with XT you still have the same 021 number. To change that over, it cost you nothing.

Sometimes it is the same brand and same model that may be in two diff frequencies. One is for XT and the other is for Voda. My Nokia E75 has two frequency models, one for XT and one for Voda.

XT is more like North America. Voda is more a Europe model. There is also a third one I think, but unsure about that one.
