839970 2009-12-15 21:58:00 I see the first flight was a success. It has just landed & you can watch the takeoff here:

...amazing aircraft full of new technology.

839971 2009-12-15 22:14:00 I was lucky enough to be given a 90 minute flight simulator flight in a 737-800 as a birthday present, which I took last week. Wow! Excellent fun!

Flew in and out of Hong Kong (both airports), Queenstown and Sydney (where I did an instrument landing). Didn't crash anywhere, but had a few 'heavy landings'. There's a lot more to it than you would think, although I get the impression that the co-pilot has a much busier job than the pilot.

Now saving up for my next one! Or maybe I will re-train and become a pilot :) - except I think IT pays more these days....

839972 2009-12-15 22:18:00 Thanks for the post :clap Two years late, but what the? Another milestone for Boeing.

Although, I would have liked to have seen the test pilot do a barrel role as with the first 707 flight in 1955 :D

839973 2009-12-15 23:22:00 It's fast too - a flight vaguely scheduled to take around 5 hours was over in around 3.

The pilot was probably too busy in his lantern-jawed, steely eyed, crooked smile (but straight teeth) role to play the barrel part.

839974 2009-12-15 23:34:00 I just hope the plastic and carbon fibre wings don't fall off in flight. prefect (6291)

On my last trip to Tauranga in those tiny wee planes I was close to the cockpit on one flight and right behind it on the second flight and noticed both times that the co-pilot appeared to be doing virtually all the work. It seemed like the pilot only came along for the ride.
