839786 2009-12-14 23:45:00 Where is everyone going for Christmas this year?

Me, I'm staying home, sitting around the pool drinking beer and trying to summon the energy to paint the house...

NOT painting the house over Xmas is an art form that has taken me years to perfect:

Thirty-one tried and true reasons for not painting the house.

1) It's raining

2) It looks like rain

3) Humidity is too high

4) Humidity is too low

5) It is too hot and the paint will dry on the brush

6) It is too cold and the paint won't dry properly before sundown.

7) It is too late and dew might affect drying

8) It is too early and dew might affect drying

9) Your brother borrowed the ladder

10) The neighbour borrowed the ladder

11) I'm not feeling too good today dear, but if I rest in the lounge watching TV I may be ok tomorrow.

12) I'm not feeling any better yet.

13) My brushes have all gone hard since your brother borrowed them and didn't clean them properly, he hasn't brought the ladder back either. Tell him to bring new brushes when he delivers the ladder.

14) The cheapskate bought crappy brushes, tell him to come back and replace them with good quality brushes like I loaned him.

15) He's your brother, you tell him!

16) They were so good quality, my father used them for 30 years before I got them.

17) I've invited the neighbours over for drinks.

18) The cricket is on.

19) I've been wanting to read this book for years.

20) You bought me the sun-lounger for Christmas and you always complain that I never use the gifts you buy me.

21) Repeat #20 for golfing outfits or anything else she bought that paint spots might ruin.

22) Your brother bought me this beer as a thank-you when he brought the ladder back and the new brushes, it would be rude not to share a few stubbies with him.

23) I've been drinking so I don't think I should get up a ladder for a few hours.

24) I've invited the neighbours over for a barbie so I'll have to clean it so I can cook the steaks.

25) I have to go buy some steaks.

26) The gas bottle is empty, I have to go fill it.

27) Yeah, well, I met a guy I haven't seen for years at the gas station so we went for a few beers and I didn't notice it had got dark outside.

28) Repeat #23

29) I thought you said Purple Paint for the weatherboards!!!

30) My credit card is maxed out so I can't buy more paint until next month.

Repeat with variations as necessary until it is time for #31

31) I can't paint tomorrow, I have to go to work.

Cheers

PS. The Doctor said the bruises should be gone by next week, but the purple paint will take few weeks to get out of my hair and eyebrows.
