| 839588 | 2009-12-14 19:50:00 | See 2talk.co.nz They'll basically charge a small base fee (Around $7 I think?) which is WAY less than other providers like Telecom / TelstraClear, or resellers of those services. They then charge per-minute for incoming calls, and potentially an additional per-minute to redirect it to your landline or to your cellphone. 2talk have the *best* per-minute rates in NZ as far as I know. Email their support@2talk address and they can answer all your questions :) Hope this helps Chill. |

The issue is with number selection. I don't think you can number port an 0800 number to 2Talk from a different provider with access to more 0800 numbers. I'd recommend WorldxChange, register a number with Telecom and port it to WorldxChange. You'll find their charges aren't too bad, especially if the number is terminating on one of their VFX numbers. |

| 839591 | 2009-12-15 04:19:00 | Ah yes, except I know that 2talk (through CallPlus) have a direct account now on the server that manages all the number porting. I know, I had a lot of input with respect to tee'ing it up around Nov '08 -> Feb '09. It's the *real* deal ;) I'm just trying to remember the name of that independent telecommunications group, it's been so long since I dealt with it directly and I'm tired after a long day at work :p |

| 839592 | 2009-12-15 04:29:00 | I was thinking about getting an my own 0800 number for home, does anyone have any experience of this, costs, usability etc ?Nt The obvious question arises: Why would you want to pay the costs of an 0800 number for your home unless you are running a business. If that was the case I would have thought you'd mention the business case for having an 0800 number. If you are not in business, it just means you pay for every call that comes in, wherever it may originate in NZ but without any commensurate cash flow in compensation. Cheers Billy 8-{) :confused: |

| 839593 | 2009-12-15 04:30:00 | Not to mention that the quality of the VFX system has gone badly downhill of late - 2talk is a damn sight better. | Erayd (23) | ||
| 839594 | 2009-12-15 05:51:00 | Oh yeah and in the 2talk Live panel it's easy to disable inbound calls from Cell, saving on the costs there too ;) | Chilling_Silence (9) | ||
| 839595 | 2009-12-15 06:36:00 | We had one once. Our phone bills were gigantic. It was back when Telecom had that rewards thing and you got decent stuff. We got loads of things, then they stopped it, we continued with the large bills for a while then ditched it. Make them pay the call. Much better idea - business or not. |

I remember as a kid a mate of mine at school, his parents had an 0800 number (before cellphones were common place). It meant he was always able to call home from anywhere. If that was the case I would have thought you'd mention the business case for having an 0800 number. If you are not in business, it just means you pay for every call that comes in, wherever it may originate in NZ but without any commensurate cash flow in compensation. Ever since we've had an 0800 number for work, we've seen a positive increase in sales inquiries. It allows anyone in the country to call us, however we've blocked cellphones as we're not that generous :) Oh yeah and in the 2talk Live panel it's easy to disable inbound calls from Cell, saving on the costs there too ;) If I can put my WxC fanboy hat on again, WxC do support this, however it's manual to setup (the 2Talk control panel rocks). An 0800 number on VoIP costs very little. Since I've got the WxC pricing handy, it's $7.50 minimum per month, and if the 0800 number terminates on a DVX number, it's 5c/minute for local/national calls inbound. Pretty cheap if you ask me. |
