839055 2009-12-13 02:10:00 Hi Guys.
I want to increase the ram in my old desktop.
Currently have 512mb (2x256). Want to increase it to 1gb or more for games.
Don't want to spend a lot so thought I would ask if anyone on here has any second hand chips they are prepared to sell at a reasonable price.
Only has 2 slots.

DDR 333 or compatable

Cheers
Colin

839056 2009-12-13 04:39:00 First I would say what games you wanna play and what is your video card installed?

Would like to know what motherboard you have? You can download CPU-Z a small utility. Some motherboards may only have 2 slots for RAM. Also it determines what is the max allowed.

839057 2009-12-13 05:19:00 The games I want to play are not the high tech ones. Age of empires, Civilisation ETC.
Would like to play ANNO 1404 which needs 1 gb ram.

Re the mother board.
The Computer is a Dell Dimension 2400 with 2.4 Mh.
The Computers Manual tells me that it takes 128, 256 or 512 MB
2 slots.
Maximum Ram 1 GB

PC2700 (333Mhz ) DDR SDRAM
or
PC2100 (266Mhz) DDR SDRAM

839058 2009-12-13 06:30:00 I have 2 x 512MB DDR400 you can have if they will work for you. PM an address if you want them. CliveM (6007)
839059 2009-12-13 08:12:00 In that case as it says, 2 slots for RAM. You have 2x 256MB that means you rid them both and add in 2x 512MB. Nomad (952)

Yep, those should work fine, as they'll auto underclock to DDR333 speeds.
