1124295 2010-08-03 09:19:00 Hi Digby ... yeah been reading a bit myself and Arial is very close ... I think there's only about 4 or 5 Letters & numbers that have slight differences. G Q & 1 are 3 of them.

What I can't understand is why DeSade has it on MS Word ... unless it's a corporate copy where Helvetica has been installed and used in a business environment.

Tutor may be somewhat pedantic or just following the course content "spec's" to the letter not realising that the font isn't free to all.

Tomorrow will tell.

1124297 2010-08-03 11:34:00 I am sure that Helvetica was on my Mac when I used that OS, which would have been from 1986 to the mid 1990s. Not that this is much help to you know, but I would have been using a Microsoft suite in those days.

Does Open Office have Helvetica?

1124301 2010-08-03 23:53:00 Microsoft Works 8 has Helvetica font. Came preinstalled on my computer.

I have MS Works 8 OEM version and it does not show up when I open the word processor.

Also I have Office 2007 and its not there either.

Before anyone asks I have Works so I can read database files sent to me by a member of our golf club.

1124302 2010-08-04 01:39:00 I remember having a similar task when I was doing a course with The Open Polytechnic several years back now. It was no better then, even though I requested they didn't use Helvetica as it was a paid font that most people don't have. The lecturer didn't seem to understand that even in an IT course, 50% of the people didn't have the font for a reason ... coz it's not free!

He just wrote it off as part of the course-related fees. Wish I could have smacked him one over the head for being such an ass!

Long story short, back in the day I found a free download (Legal or not, didn't care, I removed it immediately after that one paper), but yeah, almost all font sites want you to pay for it now... It's a grey area, but to be honest your best place to look is torrents. 'nuff said.

1124303 2010-08-04 03:10:00 Helvetica should be on a Mac, also did you actually check photoshop as in open photoshop and look, as at one point adobe save their included fonts to
c:\program files\common siles\adobe\fonts

so they by default would only be used on adobe prograns
