839980 2009-12-17 01:01:00 Although, I would have liked to have seen the test pilot do a barrel role as with the first 707 flight in 1955 :D

Is that for real ?

I would not have thought a civil airliner could stand that sort of stress.

I saw one of those disaster flights tv shows recently where a guy attacked the crew and was fighting with them and the pilot made the plane roll over from side to side. That was scary just sitting in my seat.

Being late home from the pub causes stress, aerobatics are to release stress ;)

(Except in an Auster, where aerobatics release oil.)

We Spitfire pilots thought of it.

But the we were not of a nervous disposition.

The photography's not all that great (it was 1955 remember), and you need to scroll down a bit to get to the video. The essence is the aircraft doesnt pull more - or less - than 1G in the maneuver, and is perfectly safe. Having said that, I'd rather watch it from the ground and stick to aerobatics in a Victa100.

I didnt know Auster were aerobatic. Same in engine in Moth so Mr DH must of had some sort of nrv to stop oil spilling out but I dont know for sure.
