| 839442 | 2009-12-14 11:04:00 | Very nice of you Johnny to go to the trouble. I once left my mobile on the roof of my car. I drove off and of course it fell off somewhere. Got a call from the police the next day - some decent fellow had picked it up and handed it in to local cop shop. Another time I loaned a book from the library - between the pages were two expensive tickets to a concert. I was tempted to use them myself, I can't deny, but I got in touch with the library and they got them back to the owner. Turned out the guy had hidden them in the book as a wedding anniversary present for him and his wife. Ahh - the feel-good factor of being honest is so much better than the ill-gotten gains otherwise. More worrying however, early one morning recently I was up outside at about 2:00am having a smoke. I was still up at around 4:00am when I went outside again. Then I noticed someone had dropped a mobile on the ground right where I'd been standing 2 hours previously!! It was clear to me that some intruder was scoping the house and I guessed that the potential burglar / home invader had dropped it from his pocket after an earlier theft (it was clearly a women's phone, being a bright pink colour). Anyway, I called the cops who traced it to the owner (I wasn't nosey enough to check the calls and texts made on it), and afterwards simply received a note from the cops that the lost property had been returned to the owner. I wish I'd caught the perp when he/they were going about their devious business! |
