839033 2009-12-13 05:22:00 SWMBO is going to be there around end of June for 3 days. Passing through there on way home from Canada.

She says to ask all you guys if anyone can recommend some reasonable, central, safe (area) accommodation for a "mature" lady travelling on her own.

Thanks in advance. Sorry if I hijacked the thread, but she is interested in some of the suggestions so far.

I can recommend the Carlton on Sutter St. We stayed there 2 nights exactly 2 years ago. Very friendly staff, comfortable & nicely restored historic hotel, moderate prices. Complimentary wine hour before dinner!

839040 2009-12-13 09:21:00 Views from Coit tower on telegraph hill are great.
Salsalito on the other side of the Golden Gate is worth a visit.
Muir Woods National Monument was just great - again on the north side of the GG.
California Academy of Sciences which is in Golden Gate Park - great if you enjoy natural history.
Take a Muni ride to the beach.
Cycle around the Embarcadero to Fort Point. Great "underneath" views of the GG.
