I just wanted to express my interest also in this sort of role and subscribe to the thread. Hope you get lots of replies :) | CrazySexyCool (15915) | ||

Thank youDepends who you're working for - this particular position tends to vary a lot depending on how the organisation in question organises its internal support. As such, the skill requirements and salary vary a lot too. Be aware that 'desktop support technician' sometimes means helpdesk, and HR has just changed the job title to attract more and / or better quality applicants. |

| 1124262 | 2010-08-03 08:29:00 | I thought Desktop Support Technicians spent most of the day on their hands and knees ... supporting the desktop :eek: | SP8's (9836) | ||
| 1124263 | 2010-08-03 08:40:00 | I thought Desktop Support Technicians spent most of the day on their hands and knees ... supporting the desktop :eek: It actually does mean spending a lot of time on your hand and knees - crawling around under desks in dust and shoe crud trying to get to a data port. Glamorous it ain't! If you got into a corporate, I'd expect you'd start on ~$30k |

| 1124267 | 2010-08-03 10:50:00 | even in the shop after a blast with the air compressor in some dust clogged farmers computer(no offence, but farmers seem to have the dustiest computers) and you come out looking worse that a laborer at a construction site... Lucky you can just rub it off though... Most fun I had was with the air compressor. I don't know why. I guess it was just nice watching myself make something go from dusty and dirty to shiny and near new :) |

| 1124268 | 2010-08-03 20:51:00 | Entry level or experienced? Experienced generally means 2nd level support (1st is Helpdesk). $45K+. But getting there is a whole other story. There are too many techs around now, you need to be aiming for a specialist role and that's hard to do - you need experience - and how do you get experience? |
