1123754 2010-08-02 00:20:00 Outlook Express seems to have lost? e-mails.
I hope I can explain this clearly:

- the Inbox folder size: 52,277Kb
- the total size of e-mail reflected in Outlook Express inbox 5,987kb

- the deleted items folder size: 107,612Kb
- the total size of e-mail reflected in Outlook Express deleted items box no where near that.

There are no hidden e-mails
Under View - it is Show All Messages --- and yet - it clearly is not.

Can anyone explain to me what has happened & how to get the e-mails back.
Do I need to install Window Live Mail?

1123755 2010-08-02 00:29:00 I recall a similar thread a while back, and it was something to do with dbx files being corrupted. Maybe due to a virus scanner, but I think their are free repair/recovery utilities that can help. kahawai chaser (3545)
1123756 2010-08-02 00:37:00 The thing that bothers me most about this, was it was a clean install about a month ago, although I did copy the dbx files from the backup.
Also in the oe storage directory there are quite a few .bak folders

1123757 2010-08-02 00:47:00 For what it's worth, my Deleted Items.dbx file is 25Mb, but there are no deleted items showing in OE.

You could try compacting all your mail folders, if you want to live dangerously. Not that that is normally a dangerous thing to do!

1123758 2010-08-02 00:50:00 Might be something due to compacting process, and overall (large) file size, causing dbx files to get corrupted or something. kahawai chaser (3545)
1123759 2010-08-02 01:54:00 I tend to agree with chaser,
there have been some fairly large individual e-mails received.
Again, if this is a difficulty for OE should we consider changing to Windows Live Mail?

I don't know whether to use Windows live, but what I do, I now build up saved emails online in Gmail. Done away with dozens of folders/emails on Outlook as have the odd past issue.

I looked at Windows Live email some time ago, and thought it was much like OE under the new GUI, which I didn't like at all .

Why not Thunderbird?

1123762 2010-08-02 07:45:00 If you want to spend 15-30 mins (compared to anything else - which takes less than a minute to setup), configuring your acct, you could try TB lol.

Wish the idiots at Mozilla (or whoever made TB ) wouldnt guess what the server info is for different ISP's. Because 99.9% of the time they're wrong.
