| 1123517 | 2010-07-31 03:45:00 | My second hard drive is not showing in Windows XP, SP3. It has happened before but usually shows after a reboot. I have tried disconnecting both the cable and the power to no avail. Changed the connection position on the cable as well. I tried it in another PC - no problems. I put it back in my PC but still it is not showing. It shows up on the boot up screen so it seems the problem may be only in XP. Your help is appreciated. |

| 1123520 | 2010-07-31 05:14:00 | Assuming its IDE (since you mentioned another position on the cable) -- have you tried the other IDE cable ? Sometimes if you have two HDD's on one IDE #1 cable one may not show in windows if there is a fault in the actual cable but will show in the BIOS. You can either try the second IDE connector on the Optical drives cable, or disconnect the Optical Drive, attach the HDD as a slave and see if it shows. |

I have swapped the hard drive cable with the CD Rom cable and I can now see the second hard drive. The odd thing is that I can see the two CD Roms on the suspect cable. Is it the way you hold your mouth? I do not know what you mean by the Optical Drives cable (the CD Rom?) but I'm not complaining as it has done the trick. I have all my files on that second drive so being able to access it is fairly crucial. Thanks so much, Wainuitech.:thanks You are a big help! |

Sometimes it is how you hold your mouth :D Sometimes swearing helps as well -- Not the fixing part, just the frustration :lol: Could be a slight fault on the IDE cable that was on the HDD's, OR maybe even a bit of corrosion - dirt etc. The Optical Drive Cable -- Same as the HDD's --IDE - "normal" IDE cables have two connections, One at each end and one part way to attach a second drive. If it working --- leave it alone :thumbs: |

| 1123524 | 2010-07-31 09:11:00 | Do both cables have the same number of wires? Depending on how old the PC is, you may have had a 80w on the hard drive and 40w on the CD device. Both cables have the same number of connectors but the 80w one reduces cross talk and allow faster speeds. So what I am saying is that the 80w one (if they are different) needs to be on the hard drive. | johnd (85) | ||
