839427 2009-12-14 03:43:00 I found a camera on Waiharakeke Beach in Abel Tasman National Park in mid January this year. I passed it to the police who have now returned it. There are 385 photos on it, none of which can ID the owner.

The owners are a Eeuropean couple in their early 20's who visited Asia and attended a wedding either before or while in NZ. There are lots of memories here and I want to return them the camera.

It was not reported lost. I've Googled the internet and searched lost camera sites.
Any ideas of how I could locate the owners?

839428 2009-12-14 03:49:00 Does the EXIF data on the pics have anything interesting? If all else fails, you should almost always be able to get a date and usually a location (based on visual context) for many of the pics.

Are there any other files on the memory card which may help? Many people use their camera as a flash drive of sorts.

Is there enough info in the photos to put together an itinerary that you could Google, in case someone has blogged about it?

Have you tried using a photo search site (i.e. you upload a photo and it will search for similar ones, I don't mean something like Google Image Search)?

Have you tried searching facebook?

Have you tried searching twitter?

Note that some of those methods may require a reasonable level of skill to get decent results.

839429 2009-12-14 03:58:00 You might be able to contact the camera's manufacturer with the serial # to establish the country it was sold in? nofam (9009)
839430 2009-12-14 04:05:00 What's a Eeuropean?

Try listing it on TradeMe, if they thought it had ended up stolen they might try searching for it being sold on on TM, or they might be looking for a new one.

Other than that, no idea. Post some of the pictures up on the net somewhere?

839431 2009-12-14 04:07:00 Easy: Send in some pictures to Sideswipe, and ask if any of the readers recognise any of the images. Renmoo (66)

839434 2009-12-14 05:19:00 Is it good camera?might be worth keeping.

Can't be that important if they can't be bothered reporting it stolen.

839436 2009-12-14 05:31:00 Upload a pile of the photos somewhere and post links to them on places like the trademe forum and here, mind you the trademe forum tend to have a lot more people with mental illnesses on them than this one, so expect some really dumb questions and dishonest people Morgenmuffel (187)
