1124980 2010-08-06 04:47:00 Hi all
I ripped a whole pile of my CD's on one computor, it stored them all nicely in Artist/Album folders. Media Play listed them all in the correct way, Artist/Album/Song, perfect (complete with album art). I copied all these folders and loaded them to my laptop, trouble is I can't get Media Play (on laptop) to display them as they were ripped. None of the extra info has come across, all that seems to show is the song no. and title. Any idea's how I can get it to match the formate that they were ripped in??

Thanks

1124981 2010-08-06 05:28:00 Try looking in tools - options -file types in media player on the lap top, to see what file types are present. For example, see if mp3 is ticked/present and other file types. kahawai chaser (3545)
1124982 2010-08-06 06:04:00 The files i ripped are wave files and yes that option is ticked. Anyone else??

Thanks

1124983 2010-08-06 06:18:00 I think your media player library needs to be transferred, and according to Microsoft there are different scenario's and is explained a bit here... (www.microsoft.com) kahawai chaser (3545)
1124984 2010-08-08 23:15:00 I just checked the folders that contain the music files, seams the additional fiiles such as Album art were'nt copied over. Is there any reason when I did a copy-paste of my folders the addition files were'nt copied as well?? I'd like to sort this out as I don't want to re rip 50 odd CD again. 4Lowie (10869)
1124985 2010-08-09 03:51:00 Hi 4Lowie

Me thinks you have just copied the actual music folder over but have failed to realize Media Player is in effect one large database . Unless all the required information has been embedded in the song, then this must also be copied over . Assuming no other music is on the laptop except the ripped CDs, here's how:

1 . Copy this: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player\

2 . Go to START and paste into RUN box . Click OK .

3 . This will open up the database folders .

4 . Take note of the location in the address bar . By way of example, here's mine: C:\Documents and Settings\Burnzee\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player .

5 . Copy entire folder to a USB Stick .

6 . Plug Stick into lappie .

7 . Find location on laptop as noted in STEP 4 .

8 . Copy folder over . If computer wants to replace existing files, click yes to all .

9 . Open Media Player . Click on the LIBRARY TAB . This will open up the LIBRARY MENU, click on ADD TO LIBRARY .

10 . Select in the new box, MY PERSONAL FOLDERS . Select any folder showing and click the ignore button on every folder EXCEPT RIP FOLDER . Assuming this is where the ripped CDs are .

11 . Click OK . You will now see Media Player searching through your ripped cd's .

12 . Now go have a coffee . Leave the lappie to do it's thing .

13 . Media Player is now ready to Rock 'n' Roll .

Here's another tip - Download and install MP3 TAG ( . mp3tag . de/en/" target="_blank">www . mp3tag . de) . This free program allows you to see and edit any embedded information in every song .

Hope this helps . . .

1124988 2010-08-12 09:17:00 Burnzee, thanks very much. Not quite a perfect result first time but didn't take to long to get right. So thanks again to you and the other repliers, once again the forum comes through for me.
Cheers.
