1124740 2010-08-05 02:30:00 I've got a similar one, they are pretty basic (no voltage readings etc) but are still very useful to have. wratterus (105)
1124741 2010-08-05 02:34:00 It appears that all it can do is tell you that the voltage rails are present, and that much you can find out simply by installing the psu (if it isn't already in your computer) and switching it on.

The device can't check it on load, is unlikely to tell you if the output is stable, and gives no indication whether one of the output voltages is lower than normal i.e. if a filter cap is drying out, or if one is overvoltage (due to a regulator fault) which certainly could fry your computer.

Looks like it is just a toy to me, I wouldn't waste my money.

Your mileage may vary.

Cheers

1124743 2010-08-05 04:37:00 What for? PENTIUM (426)
1124744 2010-08-05 05:32:00 For less than $12 you can get an el cheapo digital multimeter, which will tell you what the voltages actually are.

for example

If you want to go a bit further then make up a loading device using wire wound resistors to draw a few amps from the PSU so it can be tested under load, which is what I did for testing the older AT type supplies
