841683 2009-12-21 01:14:00 Ok.............. i have a vehicle problem.

I have no significant male in my life to ask these things........... and just a lot of scatty females who know nothing......... but are good at stupid suggestions.

I have a 1996 jeep cherokee, and a Mazda demio in my posession.
one is too big and my pride and joy, and one is too small.

I own both, owe no money on either, except regostration...lol

Am thinking of getting rid of both, and just having one nice more modern vehicle that is both practical and fits my needs.

i like going to the beach, so 4x4 is an option, i need a tow bar for bikes, or a trailer. needs to be at least a 3 seater.
i dont want a diesel.
i was thinking along the lines of a van, station wagon or a 4x4. i am in the process of DIY at my house so at times i want to throw things like timber in it, and dogs, and children. grocerys and other normal every day things as well.

im not sure on price yet, depends on what i get for trade ins and what the bank says (morgage is up for review in january)

i would like to have this sorted by end of january.

any help ? please.
i dont want a toy car or a racy car. and no turbo anythings.

Thank you

841684 2009-12-21 01:21:00 Mazda MPV. Great cars. From what you're described it sounds ideal too - 4wd, safe, quick enough but nothing stupid, plenty of space for kids as well as other stuff. They do go through quite a bit of gas around town, but would be nowhere as bad as a jeep.

IMO the MPVs are better equipped than similarly priced Previas/Estimas and way more space than an odyssey.

The post 2003 Previas with 4wd and the 3 litre engine are very nice too, quite a large vehicle.

841685 2009-12-21 01:22:00 Odyssey or Previa (I think there are 4wd versions of each), otherwise Prado (v. thirsty though)....

Steer clear of any imports that have 'odd' names (the Japanese do a lot of short-run variations which might end up having a parts - especially panels - availability issue).

841688 2009-12-21 01:31:00 Trev has it right. Toyota RAV4, but don't buy a 3 door one. That is what I had and it made me quit it even though I loved it!!!!

The 5 door model would be hard to beat.

841689 2009-12-21 01:34:00 Well, if you're going down the path of a RAV, then look at the CRV too - post-2002 models... Very nice to drive, very reliable and pretty economical too. And a bigger boot than the RAV as well. johcar (6283)

Would you save enough in running costs to make it worthwhile wrecking the insides of another vehicle? Keep the jeep until the DIY is over.
