Just got back from seeing the 3D version.

The brother inlaw is one of the soldiers , saw him a couple of times. He told us how they actually did the effects-- Awesome

Cant beat movie theatre sound.

841345 2009-12-20 05:08:00 I'll go see it when the hype dies down.

Or perhaps wait for the DVD.

meh....Decision made, I'll wait for the DVD.

841346 2009-12-20 05:31:00 Yeah was ten of us go in all, $18 / per ticket for adults, not to sure on kids prices - 3 of them. wainuitech (129)
841347 2009-12-20 07:51:00 Ticket prices are getting a tad expensive now, there pretty much half the price of the dvd.
$13.50 seeing im a student, and the 3D movies are $18. it goes up every year.

841349 2009-12-20 09:34:00 Visually it is stunning and groundbreaking, the 3-d and CGI was incredible. However the other elements which make a truly great movie are missing.

Plot - It's really 'Dances with avatars', but predictable and unchallenging,
clumsy plot-devices to articulate characters roles and agenda's could have been shown and not told better with a decent script. Instead you get video-blogs for those too thick to work out what is going on in the movie. Cameron could have spent a few $$$'s on hiring decent writers, but oh no the nerd had to write it all himself. Bad idea. I guess that would have meant being little less a control-freak.

Characters - James Cameron is a tech-genius, but his asperbergic grasp on characters see's him fall-back on recycling Aliens & Terminator archetypes.

Timing - It's too long, length isn't a problem when you require time to incorporate complexity and nuance into a story but there is none of this.
