1125221 2010-08-07 07:08:00 could you elaborate?

I've found XP Mode an excellent solution for the odd small business person who had an (older) application that they needed to work but didn't work on Windows 7

Cheers
Nathan

We've found it useful not so much for compatibility reasons, but so we can sandbox annoying VPN or similar applications which are required to access certain clients' networks. Some of these are programs mess with your network settings to isolate your PC from your local network, which makes it impossible to use your email client, browse documentation etc. By using XP Mode, we can run the VPN client (plus tools like RDP, Citrix and similar to access things on the client network) while still being able to do normal things on the host machine.

1125222 2010-08-07 07:29:00 I haven't used Professional, Don't let that be mistaken, that comment was my opinion, which on occasion is wrong. I just know from my experience that ultimate does everything I want :)

You get bitlocker and multi language support going ultimate over pro....yay

1125223 2010-08-07 08:17:00 Altho who uses bitlocker anyway.

I found on this, if I dual-boot with Vista, it doesn't / wont create the 100 mb partition.

It'll only create it, if you install Win7 by itself. And on some systems, if it creates the partition, the system wont boot (it'll hang after the post screen), after the first reboot (when you install Win7).

Then you've got no choice BUT to make the partitions bigger, so it cant create the 100 mb partition. That's the only way Win7 will install at all.

Another annoying thing Win7 has, is if you create partitions during the install, (on here anyway), 150 GB remained after Win7 had been installed.

And I couldnt fomat it in disk management (unless I made it dynamic). But then the only bootable partition would be C (I could only use 250 GB of a 1 TB hdd for Os's). So, the only way you can partition is after Win7 has been installed

[why I didn't find XPmode any use]

I couldn't get the video conversion program SUPER to go in XPmode (the reason could be 'me')

I don't like the new version of Zscreen (or the longwinded Win7 screen capture facility) so tried the old version I had been using in XP. Couldn't get it to work, even in Win7 XPmode.

There was also a problem with drives visible in Explorer when using XPmode.

But the main reason XPmode is not useful is that Win7 is too good at running XP86 stuff:) I didn't think Audacity, for example, or Adobe Premiere Pro2, or Photoshop6, would work so well on W7Pro64. (These progs don't work perfectly but they're OK for me)

1125226 2010-08-07 13:10:00 I wouldn't bother with XP Mode - I found it failed miserably with the few things I wanted it for.
