Was the SATA drive you are trying to use actually in this PC, attached to this Board along with the converter before and Had the Actual Operating system you wiped installed on it ?

No, It was in another PC when scrubbed.I had the same problem when trying to reload plus other issues that this why it was it was dumped.

1124878 2010-08-07 22:07:00 Why not tell the whole story in the first place I have to ask?

It's like getting blood out of a stone getting the info to try and help.

People can be forgiven for not knowing the actual specs or whatever but there are ways around that.

So what is this IDE > SATA converter? An enclosure, adapter or what?

No, it just plugs directly into the IDE on the board with the adapter cables.
I tested the hard drive in a external USB just to see that it was working OK before trying to perminatley installing it.

I tested the hard drive in a external USB Going by the replies, (I May be wrong here) But if you had problems previously, and the drive its self works OK in an external enclosure, I suspect it may be the adapter giving problems.

Two way to test this --
Attach a IDE drive to the motherboard, see if the windows CD will see the HDD.
Get some partitioning software, boot the PC with the SATA/IDE converter/HDD connected and see if the drive shows.

What I suggest -- Download Partition Logic (partitionlogic.org.uk) - Its free - download the ISO file (CD ROM version) extract the iso file, then with your ISO burning software burn the file to a CD, boot from the CD, it should locate the HDD if every thing is working correctly. If it does, you can create/format partitions with it, then XP may see the drive. The partition software will see the drive if its working correctly.

If you dont have any ISO software, I suggest Active@ISO burner (www.ntfs.com) - simply install the software, go to the ISO file, double click it, click burn.

I'm guessing the "other issues" would have been a simple fix too. Sounds like you probably dumped a perfectly good machine.
