| 840759 | 2009-12-19 09:03:00 | Got stopped myself last night, gave Mrs T the conniptions even though she knew I hadn't been drinking. Several years back I was stopped just outside Hamilton and failed the test. I'd not had anything to drink but had just eaten a muesli bar and the wrapper was still on the seat. I had to park on the side of the road and wait 20 minutes, do the test again (passed) and only then was I allowed to go. Interestingly, there are a number of non-alcohol related items that can cause a positive screening test (apart from muesli bars) including fresh bread and a variety of confections. There are also a significant number of substances that have a synergetic effect with alcohol and boost the breath reading. Mint or menthol based substances are among the worst offenders, but I recently tested one particular Australian confection which, if I ate one then blew an evidential test, caused my breath reading to almost double (see attached file, sectors 6 & 7) so trying to mask the smell of alcohol can have disasterous effects. I consumed 500ml of wine for this test, and I own an ex US State Police evidential breath testing machine and am US DoT certified for calibration and maintenance so the tests are kosher. There are ways to actually reduce your breath alcohol reading by similar amounts, but it would be irresponsible to make those known on a public forum. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

| 840760 | 2009-12-19 10:37:00 | Pulled up in my service truck just out of Huapai SHW16 north bound around 1pm at a roadblock. Only 1 free cop just looked at my COF and rego and waved me thru because all other cops were processing a good haul of cars. Apprentice in my truck said every car pulled up and alongside was maoris. Probably rego wof etc you would hope they weren't pissing up that early in the day Wouldn't have wanted to drive last night had about 10 8% woodies, few KGBs some chaser beers and one tequila layback last night. Couldn't have drunk drive if I had wanted to last night I would have been too pissed to even get the engine started. Absolutely mega pissed last night still feel like a half sucked minty now. Didnt know other things would set piss meter off is it an excuse in law? |
