1125211 2010-08-07 05:09:00 I wouldn't bother with XP Mode - I found it failed miserably with the few things I wanted it for.

Exactly what I found

1125212 2010-08-07 05:09:00 Cicero you could always dual boot your current operating system along with Win 7 so no need for XP mode. Snorkbox (15764)
1125213 2010-08-07 05:26:00 In that case I'd recommend Ultimate, however keeping in mind that you may have restrictions I'd in that case recommend Professional.

That doesn't make sense ?

Also, aside from the bragging rights, I can't think of any decent reason aside from bragging rights (and compensation for a lack of manhood) why almost anybody who gets Pro would want Ultimate, unless they're a specialist enthusiast (In which case they would be educated enough not to need to ask the question):

Interesting wiki regarding cpu support, maximum 2? Do their count C2D as one core, quad core as two?

ok, with more reading I answered my own question

They count sockets - so one physical CPU may have several cores, but they count it as one.

I haven't used Professional, Don't let that be mistaken, that comment was my opinion, which on occasion is wrong. I just know from my experience that ultimate does everything I want :)

could you elaborate?

I've found XP Mode an excellent solution for the odd small business person who had an (older) application that they needed to work but didn't work on Windows 7

Cheers
