1124867 2010-08-07 02:26:00 The Motherboard is an Asrock M266A P4

The hard drive is a Hitachi 82.5Gb Deskstar SATA Are you sure you have the Motherboard make / model correct ??

According to MANUAL (www.imagef1.net.nz) Picture - the Asrock M266A DOESN"T have any SATA Connections Only IDE - List of Components (www.imagef1.net.nz). So theres no way unless you were using an PCI card with SATA connections that a SATA drive can be attached. Full Specs (www.asrock.com)

1124868 2010-08-07 07:20:00 AS above, Asrock m266A mother board, Custom built deemac (14564)
1124869 2010-08-07 07:33:00 So therefore the SATA hard drive will be connected to one of the two PCI slots then I would assume. Snorkbox (15764)
1124870 2010-08-07 07:50:00 What is the hard drive plugged into, then? Agent_24 (57)
1124871 2010-08-07 08:02:00 You are absolutely correct, Asrock is an IDE M/Board
Whole story. The h/drive is out of a PC that had that many problems we ditched it and used some bits. This one of them. It functions well as an external unit so I was going to swap out my small IDE for it.
I have an IDE converter to SATA.

1124872 2010-08-07 11:57:00 Why not tell the whole story in the first place I have to ask?

It's like getting blood out of a stone getting the info to try and help.

People can be forgiven for not knowing the actual specs or whatever but there are ways around that.

So what is this IDE > SATA converter? An enclosure, adapter or what?

1124873 2010-08-07 12:12:00 Maybe one of these, take your pick (www.google.co.nz) :waughh:

I have an IDE converter to SATA. Was the SATA drive you are trying to use actually in this PC, attached to this Board along with the converter before and Had the Actual Operating system you wiped installed on it ?

1124874 2010-08-07 12:19:00 Even a separate SATA board will need SATA drivers.

Those SATA\IDE converters don't need SATA drivers because they show up as an IDE drive to the BIOS.

1124875 2010-08-07 12:35:00 Thats why it may be good if the question I asked about gets answered - was it attached before. :)

As Snorkbox mentioned -- be nice to know the whole story.

1124876 2010-08-07 14:42:00 As I have been trying to get at all along. I have seen drives pulled out of other things before and partitioned in FAT32 or EXT Linux or whatever and for some reason Windows can't find a partition to install to.

Scrubbed with system mechanic probably sent me down the wrong path I think.
