5 mths home detention and 100 hrs community service...not bad for $70K.....he should be force to sell the house and repay the money back!

Quite agree, feathering your nest at the taxpayers expense is wrong,
makes no difference if you are a beneficiary, a legal aid lawyer or a finance minister.;)

842029 2009-12-22 02:34:00 But surly the point is this money was given to them. Technically it wasn’t stolen.

So I suggest the members of WINZ that were party to this should be tracked down and publicly flogged! That goes for the Doctor too!

The Harris family has to have WINZ staff on backhanders, it couldn’t happen any other way.

842030 2009-12-22 03:38:00 What! Last I heard, cannabis was illegal

Funny, that's what I thought. The cops must be scared of them too.

842031 2009-12-22 03:44:00 Not only that, they own their own house, so they have made a tax free capital gain on that property, which we are also subsidising.

The problem with 'benefits', is that people think they are 'entitlements', which isn't helped by Winz refering to beneficiaries as 'clients'. I can see another rebranding of winz at the next budget. I do beleive in benefits for those with need, as I believe in a social welfare system.

842032 2009-12-22 05:33:00 Nice car they have even though they are on a benefit.....and they even get extra to fit new tyres if I read the report right!!

And yet, my brother has chronic back pain from a crook nerve in his back, has had a operation that didn't fix it, and WINZ are all over him like a bad smell sending him to computer classes, how to chop wood was another, car repair, etc.

Had a medical from his own doctor and from the specialist as well that he cannot stand for very long and even sitting causes issue's all of which have been over ruled by WINZ's own GP's.

Nice for some, those that really need assistance cannot get it, those that don't need it and are bludging the system, get money thrown at them.

That is the problem, if they had got the crook nerve from an accident, they would be entitled to ACC which you get upto 80% of your normal income . However if it is from disease or 'natural' causes, you almost get treated like a second class citizen . Not to mention that many of the injuries on ACC are self inflicted, by people participating in high risk activities .
It is often the people who are most at need, that miss out .
