but im picking my BIL would as he was a car sales man / manager for 20+ years, so if i really needed help he would spill i guess........ he has just said to haggle hard and not give in on the price i want, as he thinks its a fair price. both are good vehicles.

thanks will keep plodding on.........

OK, get him to explain how write backs or increased trade in price deals work.

You will then also understand how the minimum trade in on anything Scam works.

Dealer must have thought he could rob you or kids would never have seen bickies.

841845 2010-01-12 09:23:00 I have a 3 door but I don't have to cart children.

Go try a 5 door which I think is your best option. I'd go 2 litre as well.

You need a two liter 5 door, you know this deep down .

This will of course limit the available stock and increase the price .

Check previous owners and mileages carefully .

5 doors were/are much prefered by poorer realestate agents .

vehicles used by reale estate agents frequently have mileage accuracy issues .

many of those agents are also female in the case of rav4's .

3 door rav fours have been very favoured by many security companies and female commision ony sales reps in particular . In large urban areas they are also popular with young women . This leaves them with all the unpleasant side effects from such ownership .

841847 2010-01-12 21:23:00 A review for you Beetle. Written back in 2005 in Australia but may tell you a few things to look for.

www.drive.com.au

It confirmed my thoughts on the 5 door is what you need especially about interior space.

841849 2010-02-10 05:52:00 I know its been ages since i started this, but i am still looking, as a few things have cropped up and i had to put it on hold.......

but i have another question......... when i look at a vehicle, should i be more worried about its age, or its mileage ?

if a vehicle has done high km's but been serviced regularly is that a good thing?

or should i be looking at something that doesn't matter what km's are like just that it is younger than my vehicles?

i may have asked these before, but dont remember the answers......

thanks

841850 2010-02-10 09:01:00 My opinion is lower Km's are better than lower year. Greg (193)

841852 2010-02-11 05:19:00 I'd say that knowing where NZ is and the type of things that are happening there, I'd look more for the number of dents from sheep in the front end of the vehicle .

If it's old and was parked in a garage all the time - or it was driven a lot but also hit a few heads of sheep - in this case I'd go for the fewer miles and less sheep-impacts .

There seems to be an inverse proportion to miles/age here in the States and although I know it won't apply in Upsidedown Land - we look for more mileage and good service records .

You see - a vehicle here with few miles on it is usually abused and not serviced and it has gone barn-sour . The people who own them never get them up to normal operating temperatures - which KILL engines and transmissions and fluids .

Most good used vehicles here are about two years old with 125,000 miles (@202,000 Kilometers) then we know someone was at least trying to keep it going that long .
