| 841835 | 2010-01-09 01:34:00 | Maybe someone can chime in. Given car salesman tactics and that someone noted they want 100% profit so they hit your car value right down. Hey, would like to know so why do dealers go to Turners - Turners has a dealer lounge don't they? What about just sell the car via Turners or the like at least your price might not get hit down that much. If one sets a low reserve ie., what the car dealer told ya .. hey private buyers should be interested .... The Demio has a warrant so that should be swell .. people can test drive and if they want they can bid on it ..... Sell the Jeep too this way. Get a better price on both cars. You then just list it ... go away and let the party deal with itself. If you sell a car, you can just drive it to them earlier or like 2hr or so before the auction starts / viewing begins. Geez we get cars from Turners I wish I can get a Demio for $3,500. :D Buy your new car without trading the old ones in .... |

There's a term for it here in the US - "Mormon Discount" although I don't understand the significance of that name . I worked for a Mormon for 13 years and even he called it that . So you get a nice fat trade-in value and it just goes on the end price of the sale or payments . I know all about the advice to sell the car to a private party and use the money as a downstroker for the new(er) vehicle - and that made a lot of sense in the olden days when everyone had a good paying job and it was a lot less stressful to buy or sell something . But these days with the economy in the bidet, I think the dealers are a lot hungrier and you might be more able to bend them over and get the best price and/or terms for you . Just a thought . |

Learn, move on, if several different dealers make the same complaint then you know there is an issue. you will find severll dealers will find different EXPENSIVE things wrong with each vehicle. You should expect to have to go through this, deal that dosent happen process at least 3 or 4 times before you get a decent deal. Its part of the learning curve and purchasing process.. When a dealer learns you WILL say NO, and walk away. the next deal will inprove. Mormon discount = write back. I asked you if you understood writebacks and the minimum trade scam before?? this is a lot of information to post if not needed. You must remember many dealership's these days make more from selling, finance, insurance, and warranties than they do cars. You can generally pick these out as they are not really interested in cash deals that are at all attractive to the buyer. also they will probably have large (for the area) tradein or minimum tradein deals, but more expensive stock prices. Be very wary of dealiships with odd finance companies ( frequently controlled/owned by themselves) like the wal/grate wall motors sagas. |

| 841840 | 2010-01-09 07:19:00 | Re dealers; mostly you don't talk turkey WITH them. You are talking TO a turkey, a malicious one, who intends that you are going to contribute largely to his life style. Remember he makes his living by buying as cheaply as possible and selling as dearly as you will let him. He is adding nothing valuable to the deal except a half hour of his time - maybe 40 cents worth, more if you get a cup of coffee. | R2x1 (4628) | ||
