Thou that was manual. We now have a Toyota 2.2L auto, wagon, does the groceries, does the Moore Wilsons when they get some bulk stuff, does the timber stuff. They are good, get you A to B. Modest 100kW of power. Even the Toyota Prius only have 75kW. If you do want more power, you may need to look at a V6 engine with a 2.4L or higher or the newer 2.0L Turbo FSI that Audi has, other should have a similar tech, they both provide 150-200kW. Economy rates are around 8L for 100km in the open road (100km/hr). I was surprise to see a 2.0 or a 2.0 4 cyclinder can have similar fuel consumption to a 2.4 V6.... These days even the new 3.0 can be less than a older 2.0. |

How we save money is buy from Turners Auctions and do a test drive properly with someone in the know how. We also don't trust car dealers and by personal experience that we rather save the money at the auction and repair by paying ourselves if required. The Ford 2L wagon was at the ford dealer, had to pay for stuff to be repaired in warranty as items not covered and that we didn't take it in for a compulsory checkup. I was too young then to be involved. Then we got a Mazda 1.3L still works but not get another WOF in June thou due to some rust behind the rear seat and boot hinge. 150k km's on it and had it since 1995, car is a 1992 bought used. No repairs. Other than $1,000 for rust repairs but still not good enof, had the rear windscreen taken off too to get into the works. Got a 2000 Toyota 2.2L auto wagon 2-3yr ago still good, no repairs. Got an Audi 2001 last year and good. No repairs. |

Mazda's influence on Ford was that they COULD make sensible sized quality cars (like other Jap manufactures) in there line-up and make a profit out of them . Ford is the only US manufacturer that didnt need taxpayer charity recently, they must have been doing something right! . In this part of the world and Europe, US cars are seen to be ok in a straight line, but forgod sakes don't try and corner in one, hence boring sporting events like Nascar lol . I agree that the latter entries are land yachts and I'm glad to not have one of them in my stable . The biggest vehicle I currently have is the venerable 1986 Chevy K5 Blazer - with which I have been able to smoke some of the low Japanese road huggers with better and more road compliant suspension and ABS not to mention traction control . A K5 weighs over 4,200 lbs/1905 kg) I like to run them on Highway 76 up to Idyllwild and I can not only out-power them, I can also out corner them . (It's the 33-inch tires! NZ= 840 mm) It's true that the American Auto Adage is: "Ya can't beat cubic inches" but I try to mix in a little cornering ability too . Stiffer, dual shocks and larger cross-sectional tires with stiffer springs in the front and a slight lift to keep the weight to the rear makes a big difference . Enyway---------------------> . The Ford Financial Division was all well and good when they just did car loans and car insurance, but their dalliance in the real estate market HAS had to be bailed out by the Federal Reserve - so don't think that Ford didn't have open palms like every other corporation that did so too . Ford thought the cash cow was never gonna need refreshing and just sucked on it like all the others - just not quite as long . Fortunately for Ford, they legally alienated themselves from the Financial arm of their conglomeration when they saw the writing on the bathroom walls and didn't get caught with their mammary in the proverbial wringer as bad ly as the others . |

I was being "called" on it - that's all . Beetle - you know what you want and I bet that a good 2 . 0L Somethingorother with an automatic transmission and not 4WD is what you'll prolly get . I'd still keep the Jeep for bashing and trashing though . |

| 841811 | 2010-01-03 04:57:00 | I'd still keep the Jeep for bashing and trashing though . :D In terms of finance . One would probably save more money getting a 2 . 0L car than to get a newer one or a more powerful car assuming it has more efficiency . Many people don't do enough mileage to justify . Many people may only do 10,000km per year . Home - work 5 times a day return for a week, take the family to the mall in the weekend or to the park . A few 5hr drives around the country (each way) a year . Same for the hybrid cars . Buy a $5,000 car or a $10,000 one is cheaper than getting a $25,000 used hybrid and assume one can save more money via gas . As far as I read, new cars warranty may on average only support 10,000-15,000km per year isn't it . . |
