| 1124959 | 2010-08-05 23:44:00 | Am about to buy a new laptop. Current laptop has XP - the new one Windows 7 How do I move current emails and other data from old to new? Can I use an Ethernet cable between both directly, or via my router? I guess that it is safest to load all programmes from disc, ie Office All helpful suggestions appreciated :) |

My Documents and other files, I just drag and drop. I use a USB stick or put the lappie HD in a USB enclosure, LAN works too but you need to place 2 beside each other .. You can use the router (wired or wireless too), but wireless (G) can be v slow. |

| 1124964 | 2010-08-06 23:40:00 | I just use a portable HDD, transfer to that from the old PC, then transfer back to the new PC. You can also do it over a LAN, but wired , NOT wireless its painfully slowwwwwww. I guess that it is safest to load all programmes from disc, ie Office You cant transfer programs, they need to be reinstalled. |

Can I transfer data by connecting both laptops to my wireless router by using network cables? |
