841535 2009-12-20 20:56:00 Why is there so much more spam at this time of the year?

What makes a spammer think I am more likely to want to buy prescription drugs or penis enlargers at Christmas more than any other time of the year?

I know the average IQ of a spammer is in the low teens and they are playing a numbers game, but....

841537 2009-12-20 21:21:00 Despite the Gmail account the odd one slips through. And my spam folder in Gmail is filling much faster in the last couple of weeks - not that I'm too concerned about that, plenty of space and they auto-delete anyway.

But I have four other accounts (including one supplied by my current client), and they are getting slammed a bit. Perhaps it's the name format "firstname.lastname@domain.co.nz" that makes it so easy for the spammers to hit...

Still doesn't account for the sudden increase in volume though...

841539 2009-12-20 21:33:00 Spammers are schoolkids? Unlikely...

And it's only school holidays in Oz and NZ (maybe SA). Northern hemisphere don't really stop for Xmas...

841540 2009-12-20 21:39:00 The blizzards are keeping them all indoors, they are bored and have nothing better to do than try and make money to fund their drug or alcohol addictions necessary to blot out their miserable existences. FoxyMX (5)

841544 2009-12-20 22:20:00 Same here I get emails about hydraulic components, hose, truck spares etc from factories in communist china.
Buggered if I know how they got my email addy. Got one from Nationalist China for brake shoes and wheel cylinders really really cheap but they don't do small quantities.
Worked out less the 100 smackers for a front/ rear set of shoes and wheel cylinders for Trader.
