He'd gone off the rails a bit by the end of the decade but his first ten albums would still be as fine a body of work as any artist around has ever mustered, perhaps why he has sold so many albums and had the first ever album to debut at number 1 on american charts (Captain Fantastic).

My daughter tells me Tiny Dancer has made some sort of come back as a rap record, as well as being in the film Almost Famous. But geez it makes you feel old, I even remember when Slade were big as well.

841151 2009-12-19 10:44:00 Confess I have quite a few Slade albums . Spent the evening listening to Deep Purple, Pink Floyd etc, gee I'm having a early seventies revival night .

Honestly never knew what Smoke On The Water was about until this evening - despite hearing it a thousand times I'd never seen the lyrics . About a Casino burning down as it happens on the shores of Lake Geneva, the lyric tells the story if you actually listen to it .

Also didn't know the bit about buying a Lear Jet in Money from Dark Side Of The Moon - and that was played at every party I went to in the seventies I reckon .

And I'm usually good with lyrics but not on this occasion .

841154 2009-12-19 19:56:00 Smoke on the water was written as an album filler, basically they had the album done but were one track short, as they left the studio the fire was burning across lake Geneva and the song was written in about 10 minutes. Not bad for your biggest selling song ever gary67 (56)
