1126917 2010-08-12 00:37:00 Fesh install is always better.

Make sure all data is backed up from the drive - as the drive will be wiped.

Assuming this PC already has an OS - Click next where required

Boot from DVD
Change Regional Locations
Click Install - tick Accept Lisence
Select Custom
On the right hand side, click the blue " Drive options(Advanced)"
Select any partitions on the drive, click Delete
Click Next and follow instructions , fill in details as required (COA - Name etc)

I can't find my Vista DVD.

Is it the first thing I do?Boot from DVD,or is that after the format, which I can't seem to do.

1126919 2010-08-12 01:12:00 Boot from the disk, every windows install disk has the ability to format a hard drive before installation.

On vista, after you boot to the disk you will get to a stage where you choose partition for installation, click "drive options" and it will give you additional options for partitioning and formatting partitions.

1126920 2010-08-12 01:19:00 Why do you need the Vista DVD? Are you not trying to install Win 7?

You can't format the C:/ drive from within your current operating system.

So you boot off the Win 7 DVD to start with.

And why two threads 0n this?

1126921 2010-08-12 01:42:00 If you have a comp with a recovery partition on it (vista),would pay to get rid of it as i did with mine

Used EASEUS www.partition-tool.com to totally wipe clean

No point in using a third party utility, you can use diskpart during Windows setup to erase any hidden partitions, or just use the GUI during setup.
