2010-08-08 09:53:00 | Are macbook hard drives any different to normal laptop hd's? | icow (15313) | |
2010-08-08 10:49:00 | Nope, just a different filesystem | Chilling_Silence (9) | |
2010-08-08 11:09:00 | Agreed with Chilling. They are just standard sata or pata 2.5" laptop hard drives, with apples filesystem (hfs, or ZFS) instead of Fat32 or NTFS

2010-08-08 11:39:00 | Nope, just a different filesystem x2.. I have replaced 3 Macbook HDDs in the past 3 months, all 3 crashed, all 3 were Hitachi drives :groan:

2010-08-08 12:27:00 | Not sure about now, but the old ones must have some kind of difference (I think in the firmware) I have a rather old PowerPC 6100/66 (with 500MB HDD) and a System 8.6 CD. I wanted a bigger drive but it refused to install on Seagate 4GB drive, claming that it was not official Apple. There are also tutorials on how to hack the partition editor program with a hex editor to accept non-apple drives. But they may have stopped this kind of thing now... (Yeah, right!) - not if they could help it

2010-08-09 09:35:00 | My friend upgraded the drive in his mac mini & it worked fine apart from warning him every boot that he wasn't using an official Apple hard drive. | Greven (91) | |
2010-08-09 09:56:00 | My friend upgraded the drive in his mac mini & it worked fine apart from warning him every boot that he wasn't using an official Apple hard drive. What OS was he running and is there a way to get rid of the message? That could become annoying...
