843693 2009-12-27 22:11:00 Mods... just a thought that perhaps you could consult The Powers to reconsider having a buy and sell forum/function on PF1.

Consider... this site gets a lot of visits. This could be a small money earner for PCWorld to help offset the costs of running the forums. Eg, a small success fee could be charged by PCW for any item sold. Of course whether a fee is charged or not would be up to the Powers, perhaps a trial period of free advertising by members could be considered.

A set of rules could easily be written up.

Just a thought.

843694 2009-12-27 22:13:00 The mods have been very accommodating in the past about having long term members post wanted to buy/sell on the forum. Just PM them. plod (107)
843695 2009-12-27 22:17:00 A dedicated buy/sell/swap forum would be excellent, Though not if they want to make money from it.

Just have the forum invisible to anyone with less then 100 posts and limit items listed to 5 per month per member, That way our "retailers" can list a few items without saturating the forum.

843698 2009-12-27 22:41:00 I go to nzguitars.com on a regular basis, they have just set up a section similar to the idea mentioned, its very cool and could work with this crowd, its cool because its specific to a particular group of people. rob_on_guitar (4196)

843700 2009-12-28 02:58:00 I seriously doubt the powers-that-be would want to be involved in the responsibility and management of a buy & sell forum. They don't take any interest in the day to day management of this forum after all.

I'm not against the idea if we set up rules where you can only post in that forum if you have X amount of posts (or permission is granted on a case by case basis). As suggested, members with a commercial business could post up to a certain amount of items per week etc. It would have to be made very clear it was a "buyer beware" and no responsibility taken if there were any disputes.

I should add, when I saw the title of this thread I thought Greg was trying to sell PF1.

Fair enough.

Aren't IDG/Fairfax already running a fairly successful auction site?

If it's easy enough to do, I'd support the idea...

A few months yet until April 1.  Wouldn't put it past him, though. He's tricky, that Greg...
