842604 2009-12-23 08:50:00 I have a Dell laptop using WIN XP and a Sony LCD TV.

So far, I've only been able to capture images and save them as the WIN XP desktop wallpaper and output that onto the LCD TV screen. These are still images.

Is it possible to display live output on the LCD TV from the laptop? If so, what are the best methods to do this?

It's like a data projector except that I do not have a data projector! What I am asking is, can I do the same thing with my laptop and Sony LCD TV?

Thanks in advance,
Barry.

I had to hunt for the TV and laptop manuals but finally found them.

The TV takes the following inputs:
- S-Video
- HDMI
- Component
- PC Input (RGB)
- Video

The laptop sends out the following video outputs:
- Video Connector it has the symbol |0| (the round figure in the centre should be a rectangular one as it's for the TV screen)
- USB??? Can this actually output video??
- S-Video TV-Out Connector

Pages 35-36 of the laptop manual say to get a S-video cable to connect the laptop to the S-video input on my TV. Wondering if there are other ways to output video from my laptop to the TV as well?

The video output I want to show on the TV is just what shows on the laptop screen eg Windows, Browser, spreadsheet.

842607 2009-12-23 10:37:00 Either S-video or the VGA(PC) should work.
You already have the desktop background on the TV screen but no taskbar?
That is normal, if you move the mouse cursor to the far right or left does it appear on the TV screen? If so you can just drag a window (such as Windows Media Player or whatever)
if it is not maximized, to the TV screen and maximize it there.

842608 2009-12-23 10:49:00 You may have to configure the video settings (if the video drivers have some kind of configuration / settings for it). So whatever is on the laptop will appear on the TV (once you connect it to the TV) Speedy Gonzales (78)
842609 2009-12-23 23:05:00 Seems there are only two ways my laptop can send video output to my TV: S-Video and PC-input (aka VGA PC).

I think I will get a S-video cable to see if my laptop can send video output to my TV this way. I will also try the PC-input option.

This may take a few days to see what happens. I will let you know what happens.

842610 2009-12-23 23:28:00 Use the VGA for the best picture. Run a lead from laptop headphone output to the TV for sound

That is what I did with mine on my old LCD TV
