I can guarantee that 100% - there has been the odd time I left a DVD/CD on the work bench, or not realized it was it was in the sun, then go to use it a few days or week later - and Oh boy - doesn't work anymore.

I found a DVD that used to work fine, it was sitting in the pile of CDs & DVD's that I hope to get around to sorting these holidays just bits and bobs on them - the pile is near the end of one of my work Benches, that is close to a window, that gets the sun late in the afternoon if its shining maybe for an hour - One is a new imation DVD the other one is stuffed Guess the stuffed one (www.imagef1.net.nz) :p

843129 2009-12-30 04:03:00 As I mentioned before I also believed that the sun would affect DVDs and CDs but the state of those I have deliberately left in the sun rain etc all seem unaffected. But of course I am only talking appearance. As I had deliberately scratched them I know they will be useless. But after the last two entries in this thread I did a double take and shot out to look at them again.
Still "look" perfectly OK.
I'm puzzled, but even if I had not scratched the disks I would be surprised if they worked now.
My opinion of both CD and DVD disks is that they are somewhat unreliable - not to be trusted.
Oh for the good old days of the 5.25inch floppies - no matter how mistreated and buckled they were they seemed to work OK.
I reckon we are waiting for someting better than the existing situation - perhaps flash drives as a reasonable price (ie $1 or thereabouts)
