1125978 2010-08-10 02:28:00 Maybe more capable, but that doesn't specifically equate to functional, especially considering a business has different requirements to personal use ;)

In this example the client runs a business with technicians that go out to homes offering different handyman-type services. They need a way to communicate with the Call Center staff who take the calls from customers etc, and book things into their CRM software.

The technicians on the road just need a nice easy way to enter in the data of what they've done, pricing charged etc, is a re-visit required, anything like that, and send it back to the call center staff. They've tried the iPhone and Blackberries, and the staff got insanely frustrated trying to enter data on such a small screen. These are non-IT-savvy technicians remember.
They tried laptops, but the staff wouldnt shut them down, and it was a mission to get 3G data on them, having to wait to dial-up, resume form standby, battery life, portability isn't ideal for them. Then there was the constant popups of Anti-Virus, windows updates, other such things, staff wanting to use them at their home in their own time, one got infected with Malware after just a few days and lost all connectivity via WiFi and 3G... No worries about that with the iPad (Hopefully) :)

So, we're onto the iPad. Got one today from DSE in St Lukes. Apparently only the St Lukes, Albany and Manukau stores have them, however if you're after WiFi-only then you're out of luck, apparently all DSE stores in the north island have sold out of the WiFi-only models (16GB & 32GB).

Unsure about MagnumMac...

But yeah so I've got the iPad, spent a couple of hours fluffing around getting it setup and testing some stuff out for this company and it looks like it's going to be a real winner of a solution for them!!

Time will tell ... ;-)
