842659 2009-12-23 08:43:00 This relates to the thread "Re: I'm looking for good film-making, TV technology and photography clubs in Auckland" which ran in early August this year. I have very good news to tell....

A few weeks ago, I bought a Zinwell Freeview for $240 from Dick Smith with some of the local electricity company dividend that I got.

After two days of real frustration trying to make the machine work on my Sony LCD, I finally worked out that the password was just a blank one and got past that.

Once that happened, the Freeview signal came through perfectly clear and vivid on my TV :-) :-)

The Dick Smith person said I can take the machine back after two weeks if I wasn't satisfied. The machine is still here because I am more than satisfied - I am really happy with the product. I have said goodbye to the terrible Auckland Central analogue TV reception, I definitely do not miss it!

The only gripe I have is with the Freeview remote control. The keys are small and awkward to use. I have to point the control right at the Freeview box. By comparison the Sony TV remote control's keys are large and easy to use.

My mother came around one evening and watched Freeview on my Sony TV and said she wants to buy Freeview for her LCD TV!!!

842660 2009-12-23 08:47:00 Yup its good WHEN it works. This USB DVB-T tuner I use here, is pretty good (when you get the aerial the right way round) ! A lot clearer than normal TV Speedy Gonzales (78)

That's a really quick reply .

Yes, agree with you when you say: 1) It's good when it works, 2) It's a lot clearer than normal TV/standard def TV .

The Freeview box manufacturers should have step by step instructions for how to get their products working properly . And have a phone free help facility to help users walk through the installation process .

842662 2009-12-23 09:05:00 Yup the boxes are good, There are TV's with freeview built in as well. Theyre not too bad for the price either. Speedy Gonzales (78)
842663 2009-12-23 09:35:00 Our HDTV came with Freeview built in. It was really easy to set up :D

It's been great so far - TV looks much better in widescreen and HD.

At the time I bought the TV, there weren't TVs with built in Freeview, were there? If I had known TVs with built in Freeview were coming on the market, I would have waited and bought one of these.

TVs with Freeview built in have been around almost as long as Freeview itself.
