1127690 2010-08-14 09:12:00 Hi Team

No. 1 son is preparing for his 21st, so we have a lot of photos to scan for the obligatory 'wall of shame' projection slide show.

My scanner is ancient and slow (HP5100C), so I need to buy a new one that can not only scan photos (hopefully in groups?) but can also scan negatives in groups of four or six maybe.

Budget is finite, so I can't row the boat out on top of the line professional stuff, but I need something that is reasonably fast and produces good results. I've looked though PriceSpy and checked a few reviews but I'm thoroughly bamboozled. :waughh: :help:

So, I'm looking for recommendations from satisfied users...............

All/any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers

1127692 2010-08-14 11:35:00 I am not sure how much faster it would be - but I am satisfied with my Canon lide25 - see www.usa.canon.com johnd (85)
1127693 2010-08-14 19:04:00 Unlee you are in need off a scanner for other and continued use I would get it done elsewhere like here (www.hanafins.co.nz) and reasonable in price notechyet (4479)
1127694 2010-08-15 03:44:00 I have a Mustek BearPaw. It will do 4 slides or negatives and as many photos as will fit on an A4 area. mikebartnz (21)
1127695 2010-08-15 05:57:00 NOT "hopefully in groups?". DEFINITELY in groups!! Even getting two per scan halves the time. And when you are scanning all the old family stuff........ Nuff said.

Sorry, can't help with recommendation - mine is far too old (Canoscan 8400f) (but still works).

1127697 2010-08-15 06:25:00 Projecting the slides on a screen and photographing the screen with a modern camera does a surpisingly good job.

I say this in spite of having a Canoscan dedicated film/slide scanner (which is slow due to being USB1)

Although we still have the negatives, I would never entrust all our family memories to NZ Post, a Courier or the hands of another party.

Fortunately I need a new scanner for my work anyway.

Am currently assessing other responses (except the DSE link, not a lot of help but thanks for the thought) so watch this space.

Cheers

I tried that and was very disappointed with the results.
