845431 2010-01-04 03:05:00 WARNING : SERIOUSLY MORE THAN 30 WORDS!

It's getting rather heated here in the US with the discord about the present administration and the good possibility of a third-party winner next presidential election .

Talk of a new Constitutional Convention - ala 1775 - is rolling around with more and more impact every hour and a lot more people are siding up with the opposition to a highly taxed-regulated and thumbscrewed populous .

It's not just right-wingers or radicals - but the situation here is going to the pseudo-proverbial theological establishment of eternal punishment in a hand basket .

The anger is rising from the trenches where the trench people live and work and they are expressing their doubt that the government can provide protection to them in times of national upheaval .

Not talking about red-neck gun-totin' Confederate flag waving John Birchers here - but the little ol' ladies and grandmas who want to take things into their own hands .

Just today I read an article that the US Parks and Recreations managers have reconsidered the older ban on concealed weapons - ANY weapons, actually - in/on the grounds and boundaries of national parks, etc .

Well, now they have decided that they are recommending that people can actually carry weapons - concealed or not - into the parks if they would just please refrain from taking them into the actual offices and kiosks of park employees . Neat, huh?

Carrying a concealed weapon (CCW) is legal in a handful of states right now with decisions on that same ordinance up for reappraisal in many other states for the non-felonious citizens .

Now - here comes an article from my local paper (C/P is full with tags and credits) for youse to see .

NOTE - I PRESENT THIS ONLY FOR YOUR ENTERTAINMENT VALUE - I AM NOT GOING TO DEBATE THIS AND PLEASE DON'T SHOOT THE MESSENGER AGAIN .

Inland firearms instructors set sights on new gun owners

11:27 PM PST on Saturday, January 2, 2010

By SARAH BURGE
The Press-Enterprise (Riverside County, Southern California)

A run on guns and ammo over the previous year has local firearms experts pitching self-defense training to new gun owners .

Some instructors have even set up tables outside gun stores, offering discounts on firearms classes .

Martinelli & Associates, a Temecula-based company that typically trains law enforcement officers, is teaching "Street Safe Defense," a series of classes targeted at private gun owners in the Inland area .

Target practice is just part of the instruction for new gun owners at the Rainbow Range, located just south of Temecula .

"Don't be a victim," urges the class brochure, which shows masked men, pry-bar in hand, creeping through a patio door . "Learn to defend yourself, your home, your family . "

Defensive Response, a Rancho Cucamonga company owned by former Marine Joel Leanda, offers similar classes .

Randy Archbold, owner of The Shootist, a firearms store in Murrieta, said the surge in sales of guns and ammunition started last year with the presidential election, mirroring a national trend . For a while, he said, sales at his store were up 60 percent .

People who already have guns are buying more and others are buying guns for the first time, he said . The biggest sellers are ammunition, handguns and defensive ("Streetsweeper", semi-automatic magazine-fed, blowback operated) shotguns, he added .

Archbold said the boom is the result of fears that President Barack Obama will press for new gun-control laws . People also fear an increase in crime because of the bad economy, he said .

Statistics on the total number of new gun owners are not available, but the National Shooting Sports Foundation, a firearms manufacturers trade organization, estimates sales trends based on data from the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System . FBI background checks are required for all individuals buying firearms from federally licensed sellers . (NOTE HERE: that's only on non-shotgun type weapons, as shotguns are not licensed at all)

Background checks were up throughout 2009 . In September, for example, there was a 12 percent increase in checks over the previous year, with a reported 1,093,230 checks taking place, according to a foundation news release .

ME HERE: Numbers of pre-licensing laws weapons ownership are unheralded and cannot be counted with any accuracy .

Firearms instructor Larry Nichols, (thumbnail below here) works with Sandy Corbitt, of Temecula, during a daylong class on gun training .

Ron Martinelli, a former police officer and founder of Martinelli & Associates, said gun store owners told him they have been selling to people who know nothing about guns . But he said even those who are skilled at target practice might not be prepared to defend themselves in a life-threatening situation .

His class is specifically designed to train civilians to use a handgun in defense of their lives -- which is very different from target practice, he said . The instructors try to condition people to keep their wits about them when they're scared and when the target might actually be a person who shoots back, Martinelli said .

The daylong beginner lesson starts with a morning in a classroom in which instructors teach such basics as gun safety, trigger control, shooting stance, sight alignment and how to load a magazine . The afternoon at the Rainbow Range just south of Temecula is devoted to target practice .

More-advanced classes introduce shooting from awkward positions and add "stressors" such as instructors "shooting back" at students with real guns loaded with paint rounds .

Instructor Larry Nichols, who is also range master for the Burbank Police Department, said the kind of training offered in these classes is essential for anyone who's serious about using a gun for self defense .

"People go out and buy a gun and they think they're protected," Nichols said . "If you go out and buy a violin, does that make you a violinist?"

At the range, a half-dozen middle-age students -- four men and two women -- unloaded a variety of semiautomatic handguns at targets from a few paces . By the time they were finished, the ground was littered with shell casings .

Bill Corbitt, 34, of Temecula, who is a Marine, enrolled in the class with his wife, Sandy Corbitt, 40 . He said he hoped she would gain more confidence in handling guns, which would give him peace of mind when he is deployed .

By the end of the class, Sandy Corbitt was racking and reloading the gun with authority, as if she were the Marine .

"Master grip! Thumbs up! Trigger finger straight!" Nichols bellowed .

"If I was alone in my house shooting somebody, it would be much easier," joked Frank Perricone, 46, of Long Beach, during a break .

Another student, Paula Foster, 53, of Temecula, said her idea of fun tends more toward knitting than shooting . Foster said that while she feels Temecula is a safe place to live, things like home invasions are not unheard of . She mentioned a series of break-ins years ago in which, as she recalled, the robbers were finally stopped by a homeowner with a gun .

After a bit of practice, Foster obliterated the bull's-eye on her target .

"You look like you've been doing this for years," Nichols kidded her, as she put down her . 40-caliber Glock .

Foster grinned .

"Who would have thought?" she asked .

Yeah - who would have thought? Now get this - this is in California which is by far and away the lowest per capita gun owner state in the Union .

People are scared here and it's not going away soon .

My - what a sticky wicket you are!

REASON FOR POST: Because it will be playing in your neighborhood soon .

I think the US might be a bellwether for situations that are up-n-coming . Basically this was a statement by me as to the seriousness of the situation at hand and how the recent upheavals are decimating the morals and alliances that have stood for so many years .

You can choose to ignore, read and shake your head in disgust or take it all as a giant cosmic joke - that onus is upon you . I however believe that you will ultimately be enjoined in the debate and have to make choices that you have not even considered - yet .

The game is on .

The game is on.

Not in our New Zealand yet at this time. Much like your nuclear ships and bombs for example.

We don't have morals or ethics either because they are inconvenient to some people.

I do choose to have these.

You call it a game but life is not a game.

The Tuhoe may agree with you.

You do have the right to bear arms assuming you have a firearms licence.

But if I own a rifle and have a licence I can transport same to a hunting area can I not? Hunting as in deer, rabbits, pigs and other table type food.

The right to carry or bear arms is not an automatic right to use a firearm to shoot people. It is also not a right to shoot the next door moggie or dog either for that matter.

845439 2010-01-04 05:54:00 What I am trying to say in NZ you have to have a lawful excuse to carry the gun, going hunting is probably the best reason the cops want to hear other than taking the gun to a place and destroying it then they would be over the moon.
It shouldn't be this way we have the second highest rate of gun ownership in the world Finland first. We should celebrate guns like happy happy joy joy.
Even with our Nazi firearm regs we still have more gun owners as a percentage of the population than usa.
I would like the arms code changed so that saying owning a gun for self defence does not get the gun confiscated.
