| 844732 | 2010-01-01 20:53:00 | Do we have any plumbers here? The mixer in the upstairs shower has suddenly decided to provide hot water only. It's a Dorf mixer of uncertain age (at least 10 years old, since that's how long we've been here) of the type where you turn the (single) tap, rather than turn to set the temperature and then pull out to turn the water on. Is this a common problem? Is it an easy problem to rectify (by me)? I am reasonably handy and have a few suitable tools.... Or will I need to call in a professional? Or is it time to "upgrade" (in which case I will no doubt need a professional)? |

So, you could replace the whole mixer with Aquatica, although he says that usually involves cutting bigger holes and using an oversize plate. You could do it, depends how much of a builder you are I guess. He also said Dorf was one of the worst. |

Methven are the brand to go for . |

The last about 15 years before they need kitting up takes about 20 minutes and even a tard could do it. A lot of Methven stuff is communist chinese made stuff in a methvens box. |

| 844739 | 2010-01-03 01:39:00 | Well I finally managed to get the tap and face plate off (the tap is at hip level and the shower head separate - I pretty well munted the tap itself getting it off, it was so corroded to the spline). And "tard" I may be, but I don't have tiny fingers or tools to get into that gap!! The hole is fractionally larger than a matchbox. I suspect the mixer was installed prior to the shower unit being installed.... Time to call in the professionals (and see what damage they can do, even if it's just to my wallet)! |

You'll have to make a bigger hole anyway. Go look at the Aquatica or whatever and see, you'll need an oversize faceplate as you are replacing............ |

| 844741 | 2010-01-03 04:00:00 | I wasnt calling you a tard. If that was a feltonmix you could rekit it as it is.The kit even comes with a hook to pull the guts out of the mixer. If you have to fit another mixer fit a felton mix. Aquatica story in NZ is hard case he was laid off from dorf so set up in opposition and now sells more taps in NZ than dorf. A lot of Aquatica stuff is commy chinese and they also buy stuff from indonesia |
