844295 2009-12-30 05:10:00 Rifle shots erupted during a botched holdup at a Rancho Cucamonga (that's about 60 miles from here) video game store where an employee fought back, shoving the gunman out of the building, according to San Bernardino County sheriff's officials.

No one was hurt during the 10:45 p.m. fracas Sunday, although the gunman fired several shots and tried to duct tape his victims at the Game Stop store along the 10700 block of Foothill Boulevard, investigators said in a written statement.

As soon as the gunman was pushed out of the building, workers summoned sheriff's deputies who arrested a 28-year-old Fontana man whose vehicle contained a rifle and duct tape, according to the statement.

Later arrested was the store's 28-year-old assistant manager, who investigators say helped plan the holdup.

Sean Murphy (that sounds Irish/Caucasian to me - maybe not) was booked into West Valley Detention Center for investigation of attempted robbery, assault with a firearm, and kidnapping. Marisa Ruiz, of Ontario, was jailed for attempted robbery and conspiracy to commit a crime.

AND ANOTHER ONE! ~~~~~

Today, 5:34 PM US/SoCal Time

The Washington State Patrol arrested a 19-year-old Tacoma man for investigation of auto theft after he reportedly stole a truck and then called 911 after the vehicle stalled Dec. 29 along Highway 167 near Kent.

The incident started at about 5:30 a.m. that day, when an employee at City Transfer Inc., of Sumner, saw a man steal a silver 1985 Chevrolet truck from the company's storage yard, according to a State Patrol media release.

At about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, another City Transfer employee driving southbound on Highway 167 spotted the stolen truck disabled on the left shoulder of southbound Highway 167, just north of the South 180th Street exit. The employee called 911 and reported that someone was in the truck.

Just a few minutes later, the Tacoma man called 911 to report the truck had run out of gas along the shoulder of Highway 167. When troopers contacted the man, he had put on a City Transfer green reflective jacket and tried to claim he worked for the company.
