844146 2010-01-12 01:32:00 Well he was going so slowly on some corners, and this was on the down hill side, I almost came to a complete stop. It is the fact that holding others up he would not pull over even though there were several very good opportunities to do so.

how many vehicles stuck behind?
it depends what your used to, having 30-40 cars stuck behind someone is typical at the moment. it doesn't matter what speed the front car does, there is always someone wanting to go faster.
don't forget concertina effect, the rear car nearly stops even tho the front car has been doing steady speed.
but at the end of the day did the slow vehicle crash?

Going to Taupo recently there was this container truck going down hill heading towards the Mohaka bridge, he was going slower down hill than he would of been going up. I can understand the reason for it.
:)
old rule of thumb is to drive down hill has fast as you can go up it. however with modern trucks having much more powerful motors these days, they drive slower downhill than they do going up.

we get plenty of the oldies cruising into town at 50km/h (80-100km/h areas) frustrating as hell. silly thing is they probably use more fuel going slow than they do going fast. at least they are not going to crash into anyone.

but at the end of the day its all just "traffic"....you just have to accept it.
theres plenty of dangerous idiots without worrying about the slow drivers.

844147 2010-01-12 01:53:00 Realised, with 95 octane fuel. Maybe I should have someone look at it - any other 2002 Subaru owners (with Boxer H6 engines) get better fuel economy?

That's very normal, those 3l beasties suck through petrol.

I was directly behind him. I have no problem with people travelling like that if they pull over when an appropriate situation arises which he did not.

844149 2010-01-12 14:04:00 Re: economy for the camry . When we filled up I used the trip manager to record the km's driven and when we filled up again I noted the litres required . Camry does 8 . 8L/100km . How's that?

The Audi does 8 . 1L/100km then again the Camry did have 4 people (not 1) and more personal belongings .

8 . 8L/100Km that's 4wd consumption level's, sick car or other issues .

you left out the Auckland class 5 drivers favourite.

Pairs of women with vey short skirts, in little (mostly) red car's, who believe that the small gap between the Front bumper of the Tractor and the rear bumper of the other car in front of it, is there just for them to pull into, because they really need that lane NOW.

They of course can not under stand wny the operator of the unit that has to come to a screaming halt to avoid squashing them, is not please with them.

not by a long shot. 4x4's generally start at about 10l/100km and up. 20l/100k is not uncommon in the bigger 4x4's.

8 . 7l/100Km starting point for 4x4"s urban usage, much better on highway at under 90 kmh .

Yes some large one's use obscene amounts of fuel for their tare's, especially when the operators dont know how .

do you HAVE a 4x4 ? where talking real 4x4's here . . . . not AWD cars .

its rare to find one that will do under 10l/100k on the HIGHWAY .
thats kinda expected from a 2 ton+ brick .
i'm told even the smaller lighter 4x4's don't do much better .

844154 2010-01-13 22:03:00 Yeah they all gobble gas I suppose its the drag of the extra transmission prefect (6291)
844155 2010-01-13 22:36:00 ive got a car at the moment that has been converted from a Cabrie to EFI - EFI in 1983 - not the smartest cookie in the jar compared to modern EFI but it works well - at the moment its missing 2 things - the Oxy sensor in the exhaust and the Engine water temp sensor send to the ECU - so the ECU thinks its running cold 24\7 and cant tell how well the mixture is burning thanks to no Oxy Sensor so its ramping up the fueling and running very rich - to the tune of 20L per 100km  must get those 2 bits wired in :p

plus the timing is out so that with the rich mixture it sounds like a 4 banger rally car off throttle with the backfiring and general mayhem out the exhaust
