844096 2009-12-30 02:41:00 Its all about how much low down torque though, the Audi has bags more torque and so requires less of a poke to get going lagbort (5041)
844097 2009-12-30 02:43:00 So I take it if it was a Honda Accord or a Camry with a 2.4L V6 it would be somewhat similar? Or is this more the family car designs with the Japanese?

If I recall you can get sporty cars that is Japanese but not V6, how are they like out of interest? I believe Japanese don't have as much V6/V8s as Holdens and Fords right ...

Yes the japanese do a lot of 4cyl sports cars, very nice but generally require a fair amount of revs to get moving, not exactly suited for quiet cruising :p

844098 2009-12-30 02:44:00 i think the bigger motor and a lot more power has something to do with that.

also one thing to watch is some cars throttles are set up so you get 90% power in the first half of the throttle. makes it feel a lot more responsive than it actually is.
that can be dangerous.

844099 2009-12-30 05:01:00 Some Japanese cars have a power band in them. Hondas are like that. You put your foot down below 4000rpm and nothing much happens until you hit 4000rpm and it is like a turbo kicking in.

844100 2009-12-30 05:32:00 Monkeys who stick to the 100km's per hour are the same who accelerate on passing lanes just to try and stop faster drivers.

And there's a good reason for overtaking a 100km/h driver... when you're stuck behind a truck and 10th in line and the morons in front of you don't leave enough space for you to overtake...!!!

The above is why I bought a powerful car. Plonkers who can't drive to save their lives should be banned.

Impatient people like you cause accidents I hope you get caught and get a hefty fine. I would like to say other stuff but I would get banned.
Slow down the faster the speed the bigger the mess.

all engines have power bands. all depends on if its wide, like grandads camry or narrow like honda sports car. each requires different styles of driving and each has different efficiency (economy) curve as well.
driving a high reving sports car slowly can use just as much fuel as driving it fast.
knowing how your engine behaves just basic 101 driving skill.

Pretty sure that Trev was talking aboutVTEC or VVT (en.wikipedia.org). Every manufacturer has their own name for it.

844103 2009-12-30 05:52:00 Re: economy for the camry. When we filled up I used the trip manager to record the km's driven and when we filled up again I noted the litres required. Camry does 8.8L/100km. How's that?

The Audi does 8.1L/100km then again the Camry did have 4 people (not 1) and more personal belongings.

844104 2009-12-30 06:03:00 Even just adjusting the "kickdown" on autos can make it respond alot nicer. But there will always be some lag unless you've got the latest lambo.

But like someone said, different engines are tuned for different things. Id imagine the audi was built to feel alot sportier than the camry, and thatl be why it does

I've never had an accident that's been my fault. And never will. Nor will I ever get a fine for being "impatient". Some of us happen to know how to safely drive at higher than supermarket car park speeds.

So up yours pal.
