1127338 2010-08-13 01:46:00 I have an external USB HDD that I've been keeping data on for a year or two now. In tidying up the mass of files that have accumulated, I've found a folder that won't allow itself to be removed.

The folder has one file: Thumbs.db:encryptable with a file size of 0 bytes.

When I try and delete it, Windows 7 tells me that "The system cannot find the file specified" (command line) or "This is no longer located in X:\xxx\xxx. Verify the item's location and try again." (Explorer).

How can I delete this file? :badpc:

1127340 2010-08-13 02:08:00 Boot from a live linux CD and delete or plug the drive into a linux machine and delete. I have found that under windows some file that you are unable to remove can be easily removed under linux. That's why I have dual boot on my laptop, ubuntu and windows. ronyville (10611)
1127341 2010-08-13 02:45:00 I agree with GameJunkie. Unlocker is the best free program you can use. I find it very good. get it here ccollomb.free.fr dpDesignz (15919)

1127346 2010-08-13 03:49:00 thumb.db is a system file for windows o/s with config details on how to display the folder.
Do you have show hidden files enable on folders?

1127347 2010-08-13 05:57:00 I finally removed a folder (Soluto boot program) with process explorer by sysinternals, even though I uninstalled it's program. But also used reg seeker and ccleaner to remove registry references. But that unlocker mentioned (glad it was noted) above seems a better program for file/folder removal. Does it clear out associated registry fragments? Anyhow I have just downloaded it... kahawai chaser (3545)
