| 845087 | 2010-01-03 04:41:00 | I am getting pop-ups and advertisements all over the place and I wonder if I have a problem in PCLOS or not. Is it just a necessary evil or can these ads be blocked by ABP or something else? What are the chances of a virus living in it too? |

| 845088 | 2010-01-03 05:33:00 | ABP with a little help from Element Hiding Helper seems to allow me to avoid watching the trash. It is a bit of a continuing saga as some advertisers may be morally bankrupt but they're still ingenious at over-achieving in the offensiveness department. (If a bit of the advertiser's screens could be permanently blacked out each time they were blocked it would be a nice touch.) There is always a CHANCE of a virus, but there is more chance of MS making a slim, fast, reliable OS. i.e., not worth worrying about unless you are the sort that might carry a pig - resistant umbrella. ;) |

There is malware for Linux, or specific to various browsers etc en.wikipedia.org However the fact is that, even without a scanner, you are far safer than an ignorant Windows user with Nortons or such. (no I'm not calling all Windows users ignorant, but some are.) Install Add blocker plus and see if that addresses your issues. |

| 845092 | 2010-01-03 16:54:00 | Well - I'm still completely lost and even though I have never found out how to untarball things - I still can't figure it out. Is the command line hidden in the Synaptic or where? I stumble around for hours trying to decypher what all those names mean (a51dec, libpx-devel, libsigc++2.0_0-doc,) and such. None of this makes much sense. I found out that I don't need the Faroese library though - that was EASY! I'm dancing on an alien planet here with the Star Wars Cantina Band! |
