| 844668 | 2010-01-01 02:35:00 | Made it back from my big trip, went into Kahurangi NP via the Flora/ Salisbury track then branched off to go up Hodge creek following a trap line. Spent the next 6 days from Boxing day until yesterday evening at the overhang camping out. The overhang is 17m deep and can accommodate approximately 8-9 people sleeping under it. We went caving every day finding a cave that has been missing since the early 90's (the original discoverers could not remember how they got there) which we surveyed 20m wide passages 10m high and about 500m long, surveyed another cave found on a previous trip, surveyed a new passage found on this trip in a known cave. Then on the last day went looking over the area and found about 8 possiblities to be checked out next time. My beard after 6 days of being out is pretty good, washing in the river was a chilling experience as usual. Is good to be back and seeing what you guys have been up to over the break. |

| 844671 | 2010-01-01 09:22:00 | Is the overhange what we called the Salisbury rock shelter on the Tablelands?. There are sink holes not far from the shelter we used to get moa bones out of them. There is a clearing up Hodges creek which we used to go to get deer in the evening or morning. In the old days a bulldozed road went about 10 km pasts the flora hut and we used to drive the farm tractor there and a short walk to the tablelands. |

Do you mean Grid Iron or Growler?, we went to an overhang actually on Hodge creek. I know the clearing you mean it is getting smaller now but still there. Still plenty of bones if you know where to look. It's rough country the bush is very thick and easily misleading |
