844260 2009-12-30 01:23:00 Hi all

I am considering buying some electrical items off Ebay US. However they all only ship to the US and obviously I need the items sent here to good ol NZ!

Specifically after one of these;

www.samsung.com

If NZ didn't drag their heels getting this stuff (or if suppliers didn't drag their heels getting us this stuff) I wouldn't need to go this trouble!

Does anybody have experience with getting these sorts of items sent here and any pitfalls to avoid?

What I have considered so far is;
Need to ensure player is region free
Plug adaptor etc needed
Warranty issues if arising

Any advice or suggestions gratefully accepted.

Cheers!

Ouch - $326US for freight if I sign up for a monthly account (which I presume I can cancel once my goods arrived!).

844263 2009-12-30 03:03:00 I saw them at Wal-Mart here in the States for around $350.00, but that was before the Xmas sales that ended yesterday.

If you want I can check it next week for you.

844264 2009-12-30 03:09:00 Have you read some of the reviews about this? Some arent that good. Speedy Gonzales (78)
844265 2009-12-30 03:20:00 Thanks SJ. If you are in the store and get a chance that would be great but don't feel you have to go out of your way!! Thanks:thanks

Speedy - yep read some reviews - one guy has posted a bad review on lots of sites - some of the other cons are around connectivity limitations but that doesn't worry me as it will be a secondary unit in the lounge hooked up to a 50" plasma. I have a full home theatre set-up going in the rumpus room of my new house so this has all the other toys connected through a proper HT receiver.

In short I am after something all in one to play moveis etc on if I just want to do that in the lounge in front of the fire rather than go through into the rumpus room and fire up the full HT experience!

Those units may have a integrated non serviceable power pack so you may need to resort to a big ($$) step up/down transformer. For that personally I just get when I travel to HKG or what as they use the same 240V as NZ and they can be somewhat cheaper with possible import tax arriving back into NZ.

Oh, don't forget import tax. 12.5% incl the postal price.

Ohhhh! Good point .

We don't "normally" use 120V - we ONLY use 120V - well, 117V really .
