| 844159 | 2009-12-29 11:26:00 | Just wanting to know if its cost effective to get a speaker looked at/repaired. They are set of Wharfdale's, Not high end ones by any means but too good to throw away. Only about 3 years old. One speaker is muffled, Its making noise but very little and poor quality. I pulled her apart but not knowing squat about the internals just looked for anything loose and then put it all back as it were. Any ideas,Thoughts, or suggestions? |

| 844161 | 2009-12-29 12:05:00 | Possibly a bad/broken connection of one of the flyleads from the speaker cone to the connecting block on the speaker frame (at the block end), can be tricky to fix (very little solder required to reattach, or it will break again (too stiff)), is possible though (but take it to an expert). Wouldnt do that, low frequencies may kill it, if its not dead already. One thing to try tho, hook the speakers up to the opposite channels and make sure it's not the amp that's faulty :). |

| 844163 | 2009-12-29 12:29:00 | Swapping the speakers was the first thing I done, Its definitely not the amp. I may just rip out the tweeter and replace it.Looks like jaycar sell em for $30. |

Kelly Waterman is a strange bird, but then most electronics guys are (self included) but they do good work. I've had a Sony speaker repaired and it is as good as ever. A blown tweeter may knock back the highs a little, but it shouldn't sound that bad, and a $30 Jaycar tweeter might be a little bright, good tweeters cost! Cheers Billy 8-{) |

| 844167 | 2009-12-30 05:19:00 | These are only budget speakers, I've seen em for as low as $240, so by the time it was couried back and fowards to Auckland, had the cost of labour and parts added... I'd possibly get them looked at locally if there was someone with the smarts but I don't know of any. I went into a store today and the best they would tell me was talk to a service agent, and no, they couldn't give me any info, besides they are all closed for the holidays..:stare: I hope they aren't too confused when everybody heads out of town to buy gear. |
